| In the Footsteps of Llewelyn Fawr |
A gentle stroll around picturesque Dolwyddelan
In about 1173 Llewelyn Fawr - "The Great" - was born in Dolwyddelan Castle. This Prince of Gwynedd grew to be a formidable statesman and warrior, a thorn in the side of King John and Henry III. By his death in 1240 he had united and ruled much of today's Wales. The imposing castle keep dominates the craggy valley of the Lledr, which has long been worked for its grey gold slate.
The walk makes the most of old pathways and drovers' lanes, superb views taking in shapely Moel Siabod, rising in rugged tiers behind the ancient castle.
